Our Executive Editor, Kornelija Slunjski, wanted to help all of you lovely ladies (and gentleman)
and show how to achieve that gorgeous looking skin in just a few steps!
People today get easily overwhelmed with all the products & tutorials on the market
so we wanted to show you that it's actually that easy to have beautiful, healthy looking skin!
EVERYTHING STARTS WITH SKIN PREP
MOISTURIZING IS KEY
Makeup Artist Kornelija is says that she can’t emphasize enough how important skin prep is.
The better you prepare your skin, the better your makeup is going to look.
For this shoot, our MUA started with a makeup artist staple-Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrate Moisturizer ($13 Target)
and under her eyes she used Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm Eye Cream ($68 Sephora).
Alternative eye cream: Burt’s Bees Sensitive Eye Cream (9$ Target).
PRIME IT UP
There is a lot of different primers on the market, and they are a great addition
to your makeup routine- wether you want to make your skin appear less oily, ’blur out’ your pores
or make your skin look super luminous.
Kornelija wanted to show the super popular dewy look,
so she used the Becca Cosmetics First Light Filter Face Primer ($38 Sephora).
Alternative: NYX Professional Born To Glow Illuminating Primer ($13.99 Target).
EVEN OUT YOUR SKIN!
IT ALL STARTS WITH GOOD FOUNDATION
Kornelija suggested knowing what's your skin tone before buying a foundation - cool, warm or neutral.
When color matching your foundation, start swiping from your cheeks,
on to your neck and make sure everything looks equal.
There are different types of coverage: sheer, medium & full coverage,
grab a foundation that matches your needs-
the level of coverage is going to be written on the packaging.
You can also choose do you want a foundation with a matte or dewy finish.
BLEND, AND BLEND, AND BLEND..
You can apply your foundation with a brush, and then blend it over with a damp beauty blender, for that seamless finish.
In this case Kornelija used Giorgio Armani Beauty: Luminous Silk Foundation ($68 Sephora)
and blended it with a Original Beauty Blender ($22 Sephora).
Alternative : L'Oreal: True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup ($9 Target).
HIDE THE PUFF & DEFINE YOUR FEATURES
NOBODY WANTS TO LOOK TIRED! Bags under the eyes and dark circles are a struggle that many people have.
A way to fix that and cover up, is to use concealers.
They will get rid of that puffy, baggy eye look, and make you look more awake in an instant.
You can also use a color corrector before applying your concealer.
Use peach tones for light skin and orange/red for darker skin.
Applying concealer on your eyelids is a good trick for also a more awake look.
Kornelija used Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer Concealer ($48 Sephora).
Alternative: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer ($7 Target).
NOW LET'S DEFINE YOUR BONE STRUCTURE!
Contouring has always been an important part of any makeup application for decades,
but it started being extremely popular with all the beauty bloggers.
Something you need to have in mind before contouring your face is that every single face
has a different shape, therefore it needs to be contoured differently.
Kornelija used KKW Beauty: Crème Contour & Highlighting Sticks ($48 kkwbeauty.com).
Alternative: NYX Professional Wonder Stick ($12 Target).
THE 3B's: BRONZE, BLUSH & BAKE
JUST-CAME-BACK-FROM-A-TAN- KINDA LOOK
Bronzers are a great way to add warmth and dimension to your skin.
Add bronzer on the areas where sun would normally hit your face,
such as the bridge of your nose, across your hairline, the apples of your cheeks and your jawline.
You don’t want to use a color that is too dark or overpowering,
usually look for a shade that is two levels darker then your natural skin tone.
Kornelija used Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer ($29 Sephora).
Alternative: NYX Professional: Matte Bronzer ($9 Target).
Now you can jump into setting your makeup.
Use translucent powder and apply it with a damp beauty
blender or a brush- over the areas where you used foundation and concealer.
You can also try baking-which means that you apply a generous amount of
translucent powder: on your under eye area, under your cheekbones or any other areas you
feel like you’d like to “set” the makeup more.
Leave the powder for 10mins, and dust it off with a brush. It will leave your skin looking smooth and even.
For this process, use Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($38 Sephora)
Alternative: RCMA No Color Powder ($12 Beautylish).
ADD A DASH OF PINK!
After that, Kornelija likes to add blush.
She recently started loving the MAC Cosmetics Powder Blush ($23 MAC Cosmetics).
Alternative: Milani Baked Blush ($8 Target).
HIGHLIGHT & MASCARA
To finalize your look, just pick a perfect shade of lipstick to go with it.
You can never go wrong with a classic red, and Kornelija went for the iconic-
MAC Cosmetics: Ruby Woo Retro Matte ($18 MAC Cosmetics).
Alternative: Wet n Wild Spotlight Red ($4 Walmart).
After lipstick, you are ready to go! Just add a spritz of your favorite setting spray and concur the world!
Tell us in the comments what do you think about this transformation!
