Our team noticed people are getting more aware and more interested in skin care routine. We’ve talked about taking care of your skin during winter, and our Beauty Expert & Executive Editor Kornelija Slunjski, wanted to help you all with explaining why serums are a necessary part of your daily routine.
“There is a serum for virtually every skin type, and they give an extra level of treatment for specific skin needs,” New York dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD, says.
Understanding why they are important, will most probably make you start using them ASAP.
Let’s start with the theory:
Serum is a skincare product that has highly concentrated active ingredients. They are usually water based, which makes the skin to absorb them quicker. Just a few drops is enough to cover your entire face. The formula contains smaller molecules that can penetrate quickly and deep in your skin that makes them a great tool to fight specific skin care troubles you might have.
The application should be twice a day, morning and night.
In the morning, right after cleansing on your fresh skin. Follow with moisturizer and sunscreen.
Before bed, again make sure your skin is freshly cleaned, apply serum and follow with a moisturizer, don't hesitate to use a heavier formula nigh time.
It does contain some ingredients that are a major component of moisturizers (like hyaluronic acid) but that doesn’t mean that you should stop using your moisturizer, they have a whole different purpose to your skin such as being protective barrier etc..
There is so many products on the market and we’ll help you understand which ones would benefit you the best:
1. Improving your skin tone & reducing wrinkles (look for those that are rich with antioxidants, they also protects the skin)
2. Skin firming (grab those who are rich in peptides which helps in boosting collagen and elastin production)
3. Brightening, Regenerating & Renewing (the key is cellular renewal which happens with retinol, result is more luminous, smooth skin)
